Non-Newtonian Thermo-Elastohydrodynamics and Sub-Surface Stress Field of High-Performance Racing Spur Gears

چکیده
Meshing teeth pairs of involute spur gears often form the final drive high-performance motorsport transmissions. They are subject to high normal and shear loading. Under transient conditions pertaining a meshing cycle, contact alter from onset pair engagement through maximum loading, followed by separation. Sliding motion only ceases instantaneously at pitch point. The regime lubrication remains mostly in non-Newtonian thermo-elastohydrodynamic conditions. results show that starved inlet boundary is attained throughout most cycle which leads diminution pressure spike exit conjunction. reversing sub-surface stresses main source any inelastic deformation, dominated primary peak compliance with Hertzian pressure. stress field supplemented an induced due presence spike. this secondary diminished. combined solution elastohydrodynamics thermal network model, lubricant traction, evaluation provides for comprehensive not hitherto reported literature.

A Comparative Study of Tooth Wear, Mechanical Power Losses and Efficiency in Normal and High Contact Ratio Asymmetric Spur Gears
The surface tooth wear which occurs at the gear contact region due to inadequate contact strength of the tooth is one of the predominant modes of gear failures. Currently, higher contact ratio spur gears are increasingly used in power transmission applications such as aircraft, wind turbine, automobiles and compact tracked vehicles due to their high load carrying capacity. In this work, the di...
متن کاملRapid mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a three-dimensional micro-mixer using non-uniform magnetic field
The mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a magnetic micro-mixer was studied numerically using ferrofluid. The mixing process was performed in a three-dimensional steady-state micro-mixer. A magnetic source was mounted at the entrance of the micro-channel to oscillate the magnetic particles. The effects of electric current, inlet velocity, size of magnetic particles, and non-Newtonia...
متن کاملMeasuring Geometrical Parameters of Involute Spur Gears to Sub-pixel Resolution
The problem of accurate determination of the position, orientation and width of involute spur gear teeth using a single front-lit image is addressed. The information is used to compute global measures of tooth concentricity and pitch variations across a gear wheel. The approach is based on the use of specialised filters which make maximum use of the grey level information available in the image...

The source of Acoustic Emission during meshing of spur gears
Condition monitoring of gears with vibration analysis and Spectrometric Oil Analysis Programs (SOAP) are widely accepted and used in the military aviation industry. Whilst the literature to date has shown the application of the Acoustic Emission (AE) technique to gearbox health monitoring still be in its infancy, there exist opportunities to develop the technique into a complementary diagnostic...
